HOW COACHING WORKS
The challenges people usually notice — missed deadlines, procrastination, disorganization, poor grades — are visible, but they’re rarely the whole story.
Coaching works underneath the surface, building the awareness, skills, and systems that make lasting change possible.
Most students who struggle aren’t missing intelligence or motivation. They’re missing a specific, learnable set of skills.
For neurodivergent students, these gaps often run deeper, but every one of these skills can be taught.
WHAT IS EXECUTIVE FUNCTION COACHING
Executive function is the set of mental processes we use to plan, organize, start, and follow through on tasks. It’s how we manage time, regulate emotions, hold information in mind, and adapt when things don’t go to plan.
When these skills are underdeveloped, as they often are in students with ADHD and other learning differences, students can appear unmotivated or disorganised when really they’re missing tools nobody has taught them.
Knowing what needs to be done, when, and in what order and keeping materials and ideas structured enough to act on them.
Getting started without waiting for the right feeling and staying with it long enough to finish. For many students this is the hardest part.
Holding and using information in the moment, maintaining attention, and filtering out what doesn’t matter right now.
Building time awareness, estimating how long things take, pacing work across deadlines and creating balance in a busy week.
Managing stress and frustration, shifting gears when needed, and recovering when things don’t go as planned.
Understanding how you learn, noticing what’s working and what isn’t and adjusting with intention.
HOW I COACH
My approach starts with relationship. Students need to feel seen, trusted, and met where they are — not managed or fixed. I build that foundation first, and everything else follows from it.
From there, we explore the systems, habits, and mindsets that work for that particular student. Not a generic toolkit, but a personalized one, built around how their brain actually works and what they genuinely want to accomplish.
“Students are always doing the best they can with the skills they have. My job is to help them discover what else is possible.”
The goal is never dependence on coaching. From the very first session we’re working toward the moment your teen no longer needs me because they’ve built the skills, the self-awareness, and the confidence to manage their own learning. That’s what success looks like.
All coaching is virtual via Zoom. Students work in their own environment, which means habits are built exactly where they need to be used.
A TYPICAL SESSION
We review the past week, what happened, what worked, what didn’t. We celebrate progress before anything else.
We update the planning with upcoming deadlines, break tasks down in manageable chunks, prioritize what matters most, and decide what to focus on in the session.
We work on a specific skill, a strategy for studying, a system for organising, a tool for getting started and apply it to real schoolwork.
The student rates their habit progress and we troubleshoot anything that didn’t stick. Small, consistent changes build lasting habits.
We identify the key takeaway, one small action for the week, and what support would help most between sessions.
PRINCIPLES THAT GUIDE MY WORK
Every student is doing the best they can
If a student isn’t accomplishing what they want to, it’s because they’re missing strategies — not motivation or effort. Finding what’s missing is what coaching is for.
Grades don’t measure capability
A student’s results are a signal of what’s working — not a measure of their intelligence or worth. I help students separate themselves from external markers and see what they’re actually capable of.
Frustration and confusion are signs of growth
Feeling stuck isn’t a sign that something is wrong — it’s a sign that something is changing. We don’t avoid that discomfort in coaching. We learn to recognise it as progress.
Effort needs the right tools to become results
Working harder isn’t always the answer. Students need strategies that are effective for their specific brain and the self-awareness to know which ones to reach for.
INVESTMENT
Every engagement begins with a complimentary parent consultation and a no-commitment ‘Get to Know You’ session with your teen because coaching only works when the fit is right.
STUDY FOUNDATIONS
A personalized coaching package that helps students understand how they learn, build effective study habits, and feel more confident preparing for tests without the last-minute panic.
WHO’S IT FOR
Perfect for students who know they should be studying but aren’t sure where to start, feel overwhelmed, procrastinate, or rely on cramming.
Together, we’ll identify what’s getting in the way and focus on the skills and strategies that will make the biggest difference. Every student begins by learning how the brain learns best, then we build practical systems tailored to their unique needs, whether that’s studying more effectively, planning ahead, getting organized, or overcoming procrastination.
